| New Smoke Alarm Pilot Project “I would be remiss if I did not use my time to remind those watching that fire prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Public awareness can help to not only protect your property, but ultimately can save a life. We know that fires can have a devastating impact on families and communities, and it is remarkable to think that something as simple as a working smoke detector can play a significant role in life or death. I’m also pleased to announce today we have $90,000 in government support for the fire department in Corner Brook who will be embarking on a pilot program with neighbouring volunteer fire departments in the western region of our province to install new long-life battery smoke detectors in homes for residents.” Hon.
